Day 58: 2020-05-11: Pandemic Predicted in Pakistan
A new week and a completely new world. Although the entire planet is experiencing the same pandemic the cycle of change has never felt so volatile. After the weekend our predictions for where the virus will hit with most force are always a large shift from the week before. A backlog of data collected over Saturday and Sunday lead to large changes in results and this week is no different.
Pakistan has been predicted as 7th globally, in terms of the size of the spread. This is the first time Pakistan has appeared on our global list and it is already 7th. Another new development is Nigeria pushing into the global list as well after being at the top of the list for Africa for a couple of weeks. The predicted declining countries still remain the same which only goes to show how much catching-up other countries have to do, and also the preparation and organisation these countries had right at the start of the COVID-19 crisis.
The USA is a country undergoing extremely rapid changes week by week, complicated further by the fact that the states are separately governed and some are considering opening up before the bar for relaxation of the restrictions has even been reached. For the first time in 3 weeks New Jersey is no longer at the top of the USA list, and Illinois has come somewhat out of nowhere and replaced it as the state at most risk of wide coronavirus spread. Alabama and Maryland have also been predicted to be in the top 5 at risk which is a change since Friday.
South America has remained the same in My Telescope predictions, meanwhile Sweden has changed a lot. Uppsala region has risen to number 2, maybe as a delayed response to any Valborg celebrations from last weekend. Also Jönköpings Län is now predicted to see the biggest spread in coronavirus out of the counties in Sweden.
We are sending our thoughts to those in high risk areas, please take care.
