Other Interesting News on the Coronavirus

As part of the weekly report here is a glance at major events in the news last week regarding coronavirus.

The US stock market plunged on Thursday and is now facing an improbable three-month climb, with Australian and Asian markets also appearing to be set to follow. In the US coronavirus infections are rising in 21 states and this pileup of bad news apparently convinced investors that could couldn’t keep behaving as if the American economy had already recovered from the pandemic. In good news though the number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits has eased for the 10th week in decline.

Meanwhile in Europe, the European Union has recommended that all member countries open their borders to one another by Monday 15th June, as they are concerned about the economic effect on tourism and universities. The European Commission is then proposing a gradual opening to outsiders starting in July.
