Day 63: 2020-05-19 : Are Peru’s Fruit-Markets the New Wuhan?

Tuesday’s reports show that not much has changed after the post-weekend Monday mayhem. All the countries in our global predictions remain the same with Brazil currently at the top with the highest risk of spread.

The USA has also remained stable in our predictions today except that case numbers in Mississippi are predicted to be on the rise. This is most likely due to the reports on Monday from The Mississippi Department of Heath of seven new deaths and 136 additional cases, bringing the state total to 11,432 cases with 528 deaths. In the state, Lauderdale County currently has the highest number of active outbreak at nursing homes, and subsequently the highest death toll in the state. Issaquena remains the only Mississippi county without any confirmed cases.

South America predictions are also the same as yesterday but numbers in Peru are predicted to rise. They are still statistically far behind Brazil (which has a current total of 16,856 fatalities and counting), but they have the second highest number of cases in South America. Authorities have struggled to enforce social distancing at the trading centres and at one whole-sale fruit market in Lima 79% of vendors has coronavirus. These shocking levels of infection have prompted fears that Latin America’s rational trading centres may have helped spread Covid-19 across the region.

Africa’s predictions are stable since yesterday, and the same with Sweden.

We are sending our thoughts to those in high risk areas, please take care.
